It is said ... Mikao Usui’s life was spent travelling and teaching, he is buried in a Kyoto temple, with the story of his life written on his gravestone. It is said that the Emperor of Japan honoured his grave. One of Usui's pupils was Chujiro Hayashi, a retired naval officer, who developed the traditional Western teaching methods initiated, amongst others, Mrs Hawayo Takata an American Japanese living in Hawaii and the first woman Reiki Master. Mrs Takata introduced Reiki into Hawaiion the instructions of Hayashi, as he had foreseen World War 2 and the result. As he could not reconcile himself to serving in the navy and being part of the coming war, he gathered all his Masters together along with his family. The story is told that after saying his goodbyes, he stopped his heart and left his body. Before his passing, Hayashi recognised Mrs Takata as his successor,  advising her about the eventual outcome of the war and what to do to protect herself and the future of Reiki in the meantime. After introducing Reiki to Hawaii and the US, it then went around the world. Beth Gray, who was taught by Takata, introduced Reiki into Australia in 1987.  And her grand daughter Phyllis Furumoto followed her teachings. 

Beth Gray taught Reiki Master Leahna of ‘Sacred Synergy’ who introduced Gaye Maree McBride to Reiki One and Reiki Two in the year 2001. 

Reiki Master Kathleen Kelsey invited Gaye to be initiated to Reiki Master in 2002. Kathleen’s Reiki Master lineage is as follows from Mikao Usui to Chujiro Hayashi, Hayashi to Mrs Takata to her grand daughter Phyllis Furumoto who initiated Barbara Jones who taught and initiated Mr. Les Feast who in turn passed on Master’s to Kathleen (Rees) Kelsey who blessed Gaye Maree McBride with the Master initiation and the teachings of Reiki.  Reiki Master Gaye Maree McBride has been blessed to have initiated many students into Reiki One, Reiki Two and Reiki Master level.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking me through Reiki mastery whilst you were in Australia recently. Your passion for your work just shines and you are like a channel of light – very inspiring! And isn’t that what the gift of Reiki is all about?? I felt drawn to you when you first mentioned you could teach. It was as if my fingers had a mind of their own typing on the keyboard when I asked if you would take me on. I didn’t even know how I was going to find the time to do it... But like all things that are meant to be, it just happened… You ooze graciousness and love, and I feel very privileged to have been able to share my journey with you.
